Overhead Gantry Crane

A pendant controlled overhead crane is a special machine that is used to lift things. Such a crane normally runs on tracks high above the ground and its lifting power is generated by an electrical motor that winds cable onto a drum that lifts the load.

Cranes like these can be either top running, under running, single or double-girder.

The job of operating a pendant controlled overhead crane comes with great responsibility and it is therefore imperative that the operator is trained for efficacy and safety.

This overhead crane training course will span over 9 modules that will deal with topics like components, operational checks, operating the crane, lifting and handling goods, and safety rules.

What is a Crane?

A crane is a construction machine that is used to move heavy materials from one space to another. Cranes usually come equipped with a hoist rope, wire rope, and a sheave, which allows them to move the materials horizontally and with much more ease than any human could do.

There are 3 types of cranes, overhead cranes, mobile crane and truck mounted crane.

An overhead crane is a fixed mounted crane mostly indoors. You get 2 types: a pendant, and a cab mounted.

A mobile crane is a crane on wheels that always work remote.

Truck mounted crane is a crane that is mounted on the back of a truck to load good onto the truck.

A crane operator is a person who is responsible for manoeuvring all of the materials using this construction machine. This is a job solely done by one person, without receiving any assistance from peers.
